Game-A-Thon 2020 is Here!

Hello everyone, this is Connor of the Couch Bandits. I’d like to thank Jake and Ben for largely keeping the site going during this tumultuous year. Nick and I are preparing to return to the site, with pieces coming from us in the near future. 2020 has hit most of us like a freight train, and the pandemic has sapped the Couch Bandits staff of most of their energy. While we may not always be super active on the site, we’re still immensely passionate about it, and about gaming.

Jake and myself recently acquired the next gen consoles; me getting the Xbox Series X, and Jake getting both the PS5 and Xbox Series S. We’d love to do reviews of the consoles once we’ve had some time with them. Other than that we’ve been gaming relentlessly, and I hope to add many more reviews to my “Better Late Than Never” series soon. We’re still gaming, still keeping the spirit of the Couch Bandits alive as we get through this challenging year.

But more good news is on the horizon. As the year comes to a close, we approach the holiday season—which if you know us, you’ll know we love the holiday season. With the holidays comes Game-A-Thon, our annual tradition of marathoning board games for hours on end in the name of a good cause. Since this year is a bit different, we’re going to be going about Game-A-Thon in an all-new way. Typically we’d host two streams, one for fun and one for charity—however due to the pandemic we’ve had to adjust in order to respect health guidelines and regulations. Since we all decided it would be irresponsible to sit in a room together for a stream, we’re going to make Game-A-Thon 2020 a livestream event.

This year, Game-A-Thon will be held on Friday, November 20th at 6pm EST. We will only be doing the Thanksgiving stream this year, and it will be a charity stream via the Extra Life foundation. We’ll all be joining each other virtually via the Couch Bandits Twitch channel, and we’ll be marathoning board games late into the evening. All proceeds raised from the stream will be donated to a children’s hospital each of us have selected from our local area. While we’re disappointed we won’t be able to do the Christmas stream this year, we recognize the importance of being responsible during this time, and we’re grateful to have a charity stream at all. We hope you’ll be able to join us on the 20th for the stream, to help us give thanks for a good cause!

Here’s where you can find our official Extra Life fundraiser campaign page. You can make all of your donations here leading up to November 20th, or on the date during the stream itself: https://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=55510
