Boston Festival of Indie Games 2018: What to Expect

The Boston Festival of Indie Games is an annual festival to celebrate games of all types—from video games and board games to location-based games and more. This year, the festival takes place on September 29 at the MIT Johnson Athletic Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s an event serving as a platform for independent designers and developers to showcase their hard work and share their learnings with others interested in the industry, whether they’re aspiring devs, young students, or just players.

We’re super excited about BostonFIG. They’re a nonprofit aiming to foster the next generation of game developers, and this festival celebrates independent game development within an inclusive environment, right in the heart of Massachusetts. BostonFIG is dedicated to spreading the love for gaming in all its shapes and forms across New England, the entire United States, and beyond—and that’s a cause we can certainly get behind here at Couch Bandits. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we created this blog in the first place!

When we set out, we aimed to recreate the feeling of playing video games with your friends, and beyond that, we wanted to share our appreciation for the developers and designers behind the games we all know and love. By telling our favorite gaming stories and memories, we hope to bridge a connection between players and creators. At the end of the day, we’re all gamers, and that’s a relationship we should celebrate. And what better place to do so than the Boston Festival of Indie Games?

I’m actually based in Boston, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to go and talk to some developers face to face. I want to learn how and why they create games. With over 200 game creators in attendance and dozens of games in the showcase, I’m sure I’ll have my work cut out for me, but I plan to report back with the best bits of advice I hear and the must-play games you should keep your eye on. If you’re attending and see me on the floor, don’t be shy and say hello!

I’ll be tweeting from our Twitter account during the actual event, so follow us there if you’d like to stay up to date with all the goings-on. You can also check back here at our Developer Corner, where we’ll post some indie game spotlights and developer interviews after the event. Lots of exciting stuff coming, so stay tuned for more!
